The Story
On November 20, 2019, just two days after we visited the Reagan museum, my dad and I traveled to Yorba Linda to see the Nixon museum and gravesite.
As one of the focal points of my west coast vacation, I was very excited to see the Nixon site, which essentially covers his life from cradle to tomb. The weather was fairly damp and rainy on this particular day, but had let up by the time we reached the museum, so we decided to visit the graves first in case the rain resumed at any point during our visit.
After seeing the graves of Richard and Pat Nixon, we were told that due to the wet conditions, the birthplace was closed, with the potential to open in the early afternoon (several hours after we arrived), so we spent a lot of time in the museum, (with special attention to the Apollo 11 exhibit celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing).
While being reassured that the birthplace would open in the afternoon, the threat of rain still remained, but to my great relief, we were allowed to tour the house by 4:30 in the afternoon, and we were even more lucky when it began to rain as soon as we exited, making it extremely likely that my tour group was the only one of the day.
Much like the Reagan museum, I was amazed by the high-tech, interactive exhibits and videos. The museum was one of the best parts of my trip. I was not only impressed with the layout and items in the museum, but also by how it covered the Watergate scandal and Nixon's subsequent resignation, which the introductory video jumped right into.
